ABRAHAM QIDŌNĀYA (or of Bēth Qidōnā). - Born in 296 A.D. into a well-to-do family, he consented to marriage under pressure from his parents. After the wedding was celebrated, he fled and went to live in a cell two miles from the city. The bishop of Edessa conferred holy orders on him and sent him to convert the large idolatrous village and the sizable remainder of Bēth Qidonā, from which he took his name. But after a year, he returned to the hermitage. According to cod. britan. add. 12, 155, f. 177, A. died in 366, and according to the Acts, at the age of 70 and after 50 years of religious life.
