ADOLF of Anhalt. — Bishop of Merseburg, b. 16 Oct 1458, d. there 24 Mar 1526. Of the princes of Anhalt, he was directed toward an ecclesiastical career. Upon becoming bishop of Merseburg, he proved an excellent administrator and zealous shepherd. Most zealous was he in opposing Luther and the Reformation.
