ABATI, ALESSANDRO. — Bishop of Toscanella and Viterbo, born in Rome on 8 July 1681, died in Viterbo in 1748. Having entered the prelature, he became secretary of the Congregation of the Council and titular bishop of Philadelphia, then bishop of Toscanella and Viterbo (12 July 1731). He was a restorer of his diocese.
Among his surviving works are homilies and moral discourses, as well as the *Constitutiones* of the first diocesan synod. On the work he carried out to honor the relics of St Savinus and five other martyrs discovered on 30 August 1746, see *Raggiuglio della prodigiosa invenzione de' corpi e reliquie di sei santi seguita nell'insigne collegiata di S. Angelo in Viterbo ecc.* (1746).
