ALBERTINUS, AEGIDIUS. – German satirical poet, born in Deventer in Holland in 1560 and died in Munich in 1620. He was secretary to the elector of Bavaria, Massimiliano. An admirer and translator of Spanish picaresque novels, he imitated their lively and incisive style in order to offer contemporary Catholic readers all the knowledge of the age in popular and humorous form. The moralizing tendency is especially evident in his work «The Kingdom of Lucifer and of Christ» (Luzifers und Christi Königreich, 1618).
