GIOSEPPE ALEMANNI. — Painter, b. at Correggio in 1675, d. at Rimini in 1739. He learned the art of painting in his native town from Giuseppe Capretti and in 1695 went to Rome, where he was received as an oblate by the Filippini Fathers. He assisted Daniele Seiter in the paintings which the latter executed in Rome for S. Maria in Vallicella. In 1703 he returned to Correggio and there painted small pictures with busts of saints. Later he collaborated with Cignani (q.v.) at Forlì. He entered the Franciscan Order and was ordained priest. His works, most of which are now dispersed, were highly praised by his contemporaries.
