Alemanni, Giuseppe

ALEMANNI, GIUSEPPE. - Painter, b. at Correggio in 1675, d. at Rimini in 1739. He learned the art of painting in his native town from Giuseppe Capretti, and in 1695 he went to Rome, where he was received as an oblate by the Filippini fathers. He assisted Daniele Seiter with the paintings that the latter executed in Rome for S. Maria in Vallicella. In 1703 he returned to Correggio and there produced small pictures with busts of saints. Later he collaborated with Cignani (v.) at Forlì. He entered the Franciscan Order, attaining the priesthood. His works, for the most part now dispersed, were greatly praised by his contemporaries.
