ALEMANNI, GIUSEPPE. — Painter, born in Correggio in 1675, died in Rimini in 1739. In his native town he learned the art of painting from Giuseppe Capretti, and in 1695 went to Rome, where he was received as an oblate by the Oratorian Fathers. He assisted Daniele Seiter with the paintings that the latter executed in Rome for S. Maria in Vallicella. In 1703 he returned to Correggio, where he painted small pictures featuring busts of saints. Later he collaborated with Cignani (v.) in Forlì. He entered the Franciscan Order and was ordained a priest. His works, now largely dispersed, were highly praised by his contemporaries.
