ALFONSO XI, RE DI CASTIGLIA E DI LEÓN

Also known as: Spanish: Alfonso XI de Castilla; French: Alphonse XI de Castille

ALFONSO XI, King of Castile and León. - Born in 1311, died in 1350. He was called the Justicer because of the terrible vendettas against his enemies, but his passion for Eleanor of Guzmán and for his natural children brought discord into the kingdom. He was very fortunate in the war against the Moors, over whom he won the victory of the Salado, a mortal blow to Islam (1340).
