AMERBACH, ELIAS NICOLAUS. - Musician, b. in Naumburg around 1530, d. in Leipzig in 1597. Organist at the church of St. Thomas in Leipzig (1560), he belongs, together with B. Schmidt, G. Woltz and others, to the ranks of those organists who adorned their compositions with coloration and embellishment of vocal derivation in the closing years of the 16th century and part of the 17th.
He is the author of two collections of organ music entitled: Orgel oder Instrument-Tabulatur (1571) and Ein neu künstlich Tabulaturbuch.
