ANFOSSI, PASQUALE. — Musician, born in Taggia (Imperia) in 1727, he studied at the S. Maria di Loreto conservatory in Naples. He died in February 1797 in Rome, where, from 1792, he had been chapel master at S. Giovanni in Laterano.
Of his vast production of religious music (Masses, motets, psalms, cantatas, etc.), the oratorios are noteworthy: Absalom, La Betulia liberata (according to some, his masterpiece), The Feast of Belshazzar, S. Helena on Calvary, Esther, The Prodigal Son, Joseph Recognized, The Death of S. Filippo Neri, The Birth of the Redeemer, The Sacrifice of Noah, Zedekiah, The Departure from the Ark.
