AMICARELLI, IPPOLITO. — Patriot priest, b. in Agnone on 10 Aug. 1823, d. in Naples on 24 Nov. 1889. After being ordained a priest, he devoted himself to preaching and teaching; but, having fallen under the suspicion of the Bourbon police because of his relations with the Neapolitan patriots, he also suffered imprisonment. After the fall of the Bourbons, he was elected deputy and clearly opposed the suppression of religious corporations. He was then appointed headmaster and rector of the Vittorio Emanuele lycée-boarding school in Naples. He published a course of Lessons on the Italian Language and Style.
