HIPPOLYTUS AMICARELLUS. – A patriot priest, born at Agnone on 10 August 1823, died at Naples on 24 November 1889. After ordination he devoted himself to preaching and teaching; but, having incurred the suspicion of the Bourbon police on account of his relations with Neapolitan patriots, he also suffered imprisonment. After the fall of the Bourbons he was elected deputy and openly opposed the suppression of religious corporations. He was then appointed headmaster and rector of the Vittorio Emanuele lyceum-boarding school in Naples. He published a course of Lectures on the Italian language and style.
