ANGENNES, ALESSANDRO d'. - Bishop, born in Turin on 29 June 1781 to a noble family, died in Vercelli on 8 May 1869. He was appointed by Pius VII in 1818 to the see of Alessandria and, on 24 February 1832, promoted by Gregory XVI to the archbishopric of Vercelli. A historian of Charles Albert, he was one of the king’s most esteemed advisors at the time of the promulgation of the Statute and on 3 April 1848 was named a senator. He also received the collar of the Order of the Most Holy Annunciation. He was one of the principal supporters of the House of Divine Providence, founded by St. Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo, who found in the prelate encouragement and assistance.
