HANDMAIDS OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY. - A religious institute that originated in 1845 at Monroe, diocese of Detroit, in the United States, through the work of Fr. L. Gillet, of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, for the education and religious instruction of youth. The sisters are of a single category and all enjoy the same privileges. It was approved by the Holy See in 1920, and today it has 40 houses with over 400 religious.
