ANDREA THE PRIEST. — Byzantine writer, author of *catenae* on *Prov. and Is.*, perhaps also on *Acts* and the *Catholic Epistles*. The place (Constantinople?) and time of his life are unknown. He lived after the 7th century, since he cites St. Maximus the Confessor (d. 662), but not after the 10th century, if the *catena* on *Acts* and the *Catholic Epistles* is his. The manuscripts containing the *catenae* of A. are: *Vindob. theol.* 26 (from 1236, on *Prov. and Is.*); *Monac.* 32 (on *Prov.*); *Vatic. Ottobon. gr.* 7 (on *Is.*, in 3 books); *Monac.* 38 (on *Is.*, a single book). The *Cod. Coislin.* 25 (10th century), reproduced in the *Cod. Oxon. Collegii novi* 58 (13th century), which J. A. Cramer followed in his edition, contains the *catenae* on *Acts* and the *Catholic Epistles*, which, however, Staab denies to A. R. Devreesse considers A. to be a mere copyist.
