ANDREA THE PRESBYTER. — Byzantine writer, author of “catenae” on Prov. and Is., perhaps also on Act. and the Catholic Epistles. The place (Constantinople?) and the time in which he lived are unknown. He is later than the 7th century, since he cites St. Maximus the Confessor (d. 662), but not later than the 10th century, if the “catena” on Act. and the Catholic Epistles is his. The codices containing A.’s “catenae” are: Vindob. theol. 26 (of 1236, on Prov. and Is.); Monac. 32 (on Prov.); Vatic. Ottobon. gr. 7 (on Is., in 3 books); Monac. 38 (on Is., one book only). Cod. Coislin. 25 (10th century), reproduced by Cod. Oxon. Collegii novi 58 (13th century), which J. A. Cramer followed in his edition, contains the “catenae” on Act. and the Catholic Epistles, which Staab, however, denies to A. R. Devreesse regards A. as a mere copyist.

ANDREA da RATISBONA. — Augustinian, German historiographer of the late 15th century. He entered the convent of S. Mang at Ratisbona in 1410. He wrote: De statu urbis Ratisbonae antiquae et de variis haeresibus; Chronicon generale a Ch. n. usque ad 1422, continued in the Diarium sexennale up to 1427; Chronicon de ducibus Bavariae up to 1439, which in the German translation made by A. himself was continued up to 1452; Chronicon Episc. Ratisbonensium, from 484 to 1428.
