Secular Ursulines, Company of St. Ursula, Angelines
ANGELINES. - Under this name are commonly designated the Secular Ursulines, who live according to the primitive rule given by St. Angela Merici to the Company of St. Ursula (v.). The distinctive character of this rule is that it imposes on the sisters neither a common life, nor a common habit, nor special works. Apart from family and professional duties, they are at the disposal of their superiors for every good work. The Company is diocesan in its government, but the rule is of pontifical right. The Angelines, in Italy alone, number about 16,000, distributed among 46 dioceses.
