Angelo Maria da Vicenza

ANGELO MARIA da VICENZA. - Capuchin theologian and preacher, in the world Marchesini, famous in his time, b. at Vicenza in 1615, d. there in April 1690. He wrote much in prose and in verse, in Italian and in Latin, with a style that has all the defects of his century.

As an orator he treated preferably of the Eucharist. Indeed the three volumes: La tromba nimicita (Bassano 1676), L'araldo evangelico (Venice 1686), Il Cornucopia eucaristico (Vicenza 1688), are collections of discourses given on the occasion of eucharistic adoration in the form of quarantore. He published a work of spirituality: Riflessi morali (2 vols., Venice 1683), in which the very titles of the chapters reveal the artificial and pompous manner of the worst seventeenth-century style. He also composed a Dialogo Spirituale tra il corpo e l'anima, il demonio e l'angelo santo (Venice 1678), and a short poem: Il Pianto Redentore e gli Strumenti adorati (Vicenza 1682).
