ANSELMO da CAMPIONE. – Progenitor of the homonymous family of artists (v. maestri), he took part as architect and sculptor in the final phase of the construction of the cathedral of Modena, consecrated in 1184. For it, in collaboration with his three sons, he executed the ornamental work of the Porta Regia and probably carved the relief of the Passion in the choir chapel. He is thought to be identifiable with the master A. who, in partnership with a master Girando, ornamented the Porta Romana of Milan in 1171.
