ANDREA da NOFRI. – Sculptor, born in Florence in 1388; the date of his death is uncertain. Also known as A. da Firenze, he sculpted several statues in his native city for the chapel of S. Lorenzo in S. Lucia de' Bardi (1420) and carried out works (1441–42) for the dome of the Duomo. Outside Florence, he worked on the funerary monument of the bishop Simone Vigilante, which has not survived, for the church of S. Francesco della Scala in Ancona; in Naples, in the Congregation of S. Monica, he signed the tomb of Count Fernando da S. Severino. His style, which reveals him to have been a secondary artist, adheres to the final Gothic manner, with unassimilated Renaissance elements.
