ARAN

Also known as: Greek: Ἀρράν

HARAN (Vulgate Aram; Septuagint Ἀρράν, Hebrew Hārān "Mountaineer"). - Son of Thare and brother of Abraham and of Nachor. Gen. 11:26-29 names him in third place, on account of the lesser importance that he holds in the history of the Hebrew people compared with the other two. He was the father of Lot. He died before his father Thare, while he was still living at Ur, leaving orphaned his son, who went with Abraham to Palestine, and two daughters: Melcha, who became the wife of Nachor, and Jescha, who is believed to be identical with Sara, the wife of Abraham (Gen. 20:12).
