ASSER, GIOVANNI. – English historiographer, b. in Wales, at Menevia, d. in 909; he was educated in the monastery of S. David. He lived for some time at the court of King Alfredo. Before 900 he became bishop of Sherborne. He wrote Annales rerum gestarum Aelfredi magni.
