Assereto, Gioacchino

ASSERETO, GIOACCHINO. - Painter, b. in Genoa in 1600, d. there on 26 July 1649. First a pupil of Borzone and then of Ansaldo, he produced a great many works, both for Genoa and for abroad, and especially for Spain; for the most part, however, they have been lost or cannot be identified. His documented paintings, or those of reliable attribution, are: the frescoes of the Santissima Annunziata in Genoa, two altarpieces at Sts. Cosmas and Damian, also in Genoa, the Martyrdom of St. Bartholomew in the Accademia Ligustica, the Circumcision at Brera.
