ASSERETO, GIOACCHINO. — Painter, born in Genoa in 1600, died there on 26 July 1649. First a pupil of Borzone and then of Ansaldo, he produced a great many works, both for Genoa and abroad, especially for Spain; for the most part, however, they have been lost or cannot be identified. His documented paintings or those of reliable attribution are: the frescoes of the Santissima Annunziata in Genoa, two altarpieces in SS. Cosma e Damiano, also in Genoa, the Martyrdom of s. Bartolomeo in the Accademia Ligustica, and the Circumcision in Brera.
