ANSALDO, GIOVANNI ANDREA

GIOVANNI ANDREA ANSALDO. Painter, born in Voltri in 1584, died in Genoa on 20 August 1638. He was influenced by Veronese, Strozzi, van Dyck, Rubens and the Lombard school. Among his many works, we may cite the *Magi of the Oratory of the Five Wounds* in Genoa; the *Pietà* in the Accademia Ligustica; the *Flight into Egypt* in the National Gallery in Rome. Among the most notable painters of the early Genoese Seicento, Ansaldo distinguished himself especially for the virtuosity of his perspectives, for example those of the dome of the SS. Annunziata in Genoa, executed in competition with Giulio Benso.
