ANSALONE, PIETRO

Pietro ANSALONE. Ascetical writer, born at S. Severino (Salerno) in 1633, died at Naples in 1713. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1651, taught letters and philosophy, and for forty years was a preacher in Naples.

He left sermons and various spiritual works, published in Naples, among which: *Il libro aperto, Gesù nella passione* (1696); *La scuola delle virtù cristiane nel cuore di Maria addolorata* (1693); a commentary on the litanies of the Madonna: *I respiri dell'anima divota di Maria S.ma* (1700); a commentary on the Magnificat: *La corona dei cantici* (1700); *Esercizi spirituali* (1701); *Il tesoro dell'anima cristiana: le piaghe santissime di Gesù* (1703). These small works, with a brief biography of the author, were reprinted in two volumes in 1721.
