ALBERTI, GIOVANNI ANDREA. — Italian Jesuit, born in Nice in 1610, died in Genoa on 4 July 1657. He was a highly regarded preacher, and several oratorical works by him are extant. More noteworthy are the Elogia XII Patrum (Turin 1638), in a panegyrical style, and a biography, placed on the Index donec corrigatur by decree of 4 June 1692, entitled Teopista ammaestrata secondo gli esempi della Madre Suor Paola Maria di Gesù Centuriona [Vittoria Centurioni, who died in 1646], Genoa 1648. A book of spiritual direction and instruction in perfection, in which examples drawn from the nun’s life are presented; she followed Pietist theories that were very much in vogue in her time.
