ALBERTI, GIOVANNI ANDREA. - Italian Jesuit, b. at Nice in 1610, d. at Genoa on 4 July 1657. He was a praised preacher, and some oratorical works of his survive. More notable are the Elogia XII Patrum (Turin 1638), panegyric in style, and a biography, placed on the Index donec corrigatur by decree of 4 June 1692, entitled Teopista ammaestrata secondo gli esempi della Madre Suor Paola Maria di Gesù Centuriona [Vittoria Centurioni, d. in 1646], Genoa 1648. It is a book of spiritual direction and of guidance toward perfection, in which examples drawn from the life of the nun are adduced, she having followed Quietist theories very much in vogue in her time.
