ALTOMONTE (HOHENBERG), MARTINO. – Painter, born in Naples on 8 May 1657 (?), died in Vienna on 14 September 1745. He was a pupil in Rome of Gaulli, Giacinto Brandi, and Maratti. Called to Warsaw in 1684 by King Sobieski, he changed his German name to the corresponding Italian one. He was active mainly in Austria, where he executed several ceiling decorations in the Italian manner and altar paintings.
BARTOLOMEO, his son, born in Warsaw in 1693, died at St Florian in 1783. He was a pupil of his father and studied with B. Luti and Solimena. He produced altar paintings and frescoes, among which are noted the decorations of the house of the canons regular of St Florian (Austria).
