ALTOMONTE (HOHENBERG), MARTINO. — Painter, born in Naples on 8 May 1657 (?), died in Vienna on 14 September 1745. In Rome he was a pupil of Gaulli, Giacinto Brandi, and Maratti. Summoned to Warsaw in 1684 by King Sobieski, he changed his German name to its corresponding Italian form. He was active chiefly in Austria, where he executed several vault decorations in the Italian manner and altar paintings.
BARTOLOMEO, his son, born in Warsaw in 1693, died at S. Floriano in 1783, was a pupil of his father and studied with B. Luti and Solimena. He executed altar paintings and frescoes, among which we may recall the decorations of the house of the Canons Regular of S. Floriano (Austria).
