ALLORI, CRISTOFORO (CRISTOFANO)

ALLORI, CRISTOFORO (CRISTOFANO). — Painter, son of Alessandro, b. in Florence on 17 Oct. 1577, d. there in 1621. He was a pupil of his father, from whom he inherited the nickname Bronzino, then followed Cigoli and the Bolognese eclecticism. His *Judith*, now in the Pitti Gallery, remained most famous. Among his other works preserved in the same collection we recall: *St. John in the Wilderness*; *St. Francis*; *The Hospitality of St. Julian*; *The Adoration of the Magi*; *The Seated Magdalene* and *The Reclining Magdalene* (after Correggio). Notable also are the *Madonna in Glory with Saints* in the cathedral of Pisa; *The Apparition of the Virgin to St. Dominic* in S. Domenico, Pistoia.
