ALBERTI. - A family of painters originally from Borgo San Sepolcro, whose activity took place mainly in Rome.
CHERUBINO, b. at Borgo San Sepolcro on 24 Feb. 1553, d. at Rome on 18 Oct. 1615, was a painter and engraver; he may have received his first instruction from his father ALBERTO, an architect, but later absorbed various influences, remaining however on the margins of the conventionalism of the time. In Rome he decorated the Sala Clementina in the Vatican, the Aldobrandini chapel at the Minerva, the choir of S. Silvestro al Quirinale, and the sacristy of S. Giovanni in Laterano. His effects of foreshortening are notable.
