ALLORI, ALESSANDRO. - Painter, b. in Firenze on 3 May 1535, d. on 22 Sept. 1607. Orphaned of his father, he was taken in by Agnolo Bronzino (v. BRONZO), whose name he adopted. Initiated by him into the art, he soon became his assistant and remained faithful to his example, making an exception only for Michelangelo. He was highly active, decorating numerous churches in Firenze and palaces and villas in the surrounding area. Worth recalling are: the decoration of the Gaddi chapel in S. Maria Novella; the Miracle of the Manna in the refectory of S. Maria Novella; the paintings in the Salviati chapel in S. Marco; Christ and the Adulteress in S.
