He taught in Rome in 1670 at the Collegio Nazareno and was highly esteemed by Pope Clement X, who entrusted him with composing the hymns for St Venantius found in the Breviary. In 1677, at the age of only 37, he was elected Superior General of the Order, giving strong impetus to studies and expanding the Piarist institute in Spain. He hosted the great scientist G. A. Borelli in the motherhouse of S. Pantaleo in Rome and, after Borelli’s death (1679), oversaw the publication of the work *De motu animalium* (2 vols., Rome 1680). After six years in office, he was re-elected and served for two more years until his death.
