GAETANO BEANI. — Priest and historian, b. July 23, 1836, at Pisa, d. Feb. 13, 1912, at Pistoia. He studied at Florence, Livorno, and Pistoia. Ordained in 1859, he became in 1867 parish priest of the church of the Holy Spirit at Pistoia, where he exercised his ministry with zeal and love until his death.
As a scholar, he devoted himself with particular profit to the picturesque ecclesiastical history (I vescovi di Pistoia e Prato dall'anno 1732 al 1871. Notizie biografiche, Pistoia 1881; La Chiesa pittoresca dalla sua origine ai tempi nostri, ibid. 1883, which also had a 2nd ed. in 1912).
