ALBERTI, ANTONIO. - Also called Antonio da Ferrara, son of Guido Alberti, painter b. in Ferrara in the last decade of the 14th century and recorded in documents from 1420 to 1442-49. In 1423 he was working in Urbino, where he left the only works of secure attribution; he nevertheless remained tied to the Ferrarese school, to which he owed his training and on which, in turn, he would exert an influence. The Gallery of Urbino preserves, besides a banner by his hand, 13 small panels that were already part of a polyptych with stories of St. Bernardino from 1439 and another from 1436, while remains of frescoes survive in the bell tower of S. Francesco. The decoration of the chapel of Talamello near Pesaro (1437), with stories of the Virgin, is considered his masterpiece.
