ALTOGRADI, NICOLA. – Jesuit missionary in America, born in Lucca on 1 September 1689, died on 11 February 1759. He entered the novitiate in 1706 and in 1723 went to the province of Peru, where for fifteen years he was superior of the Moxos mission. Several manuscripts by him are preserved (National Library of Lima, etc.), composed principally to defend the missions of the Spanish religious against incursions by Portuguese colonists.
