ANTONELLO da SALIBA. — Painter, born in Messina
around 1466, died around 1535, nephew of Antonello
da Messina. He was a pupil of Iacobello di Antonio and
resided, it seems, in Venice; he shows the influence
of his master, his uncle, and Cima da Conegliano. From
1497 he worked in Sicily and adhered to the island tradition.
We mention: Christ on the Sarcophagus in the Palazzo Ducale of
Venice and the Madonna Enthroned (1497) in the Museum of Cata-
nia, his masterpiece.
