ANTONELLO da SALIBA. — Painter, born in Messina around 1466, died around 1535, nephew of Antonello da Messina. He was a pupil of Iacobello di Antonio and, it seems, resided in Venice; his work shows influences from his master, his uncle, and Cima da Conegliano. From 1497 onward, he worked in Sicily and adhered to the island’s tradition.
Notable works include *Christ on the Sarcophagus* in the Ducal Palace of Venice and the *Madonna Enthroned* (1497) from the Museum of Catania, his masterpiece.
