IACOBELLO DEL FIORE. - Painter. There is evidence of him from 1400 onward; d. in 1439. In his youthful paintings (the antependium of St. Ubald in Pesaro, a polyptych in Teramo, Coronation of the Virgin of 1407 in New York) he is still bound to the Byzantine style of Paolo Veneziano, but he would show himself increasingly attracted to the International Gothic current (of which he is, along with Giambono, the most typical exponent in Venetian painting), especially through the work of Gentile da Fabriano, active in Venice from 1408.

From an intermediate period, around 1410, are the Stories of St. Lucy in Fermo and a polyptych in Stockholm. In his late works, especially in the Justice between Two Archangels, of 1421, in the Accademia in Venice, his style is convoluted and heavy. From 1436 is the cumbersome Coronation of the Virgin, formerly in Ceneda (Venice, Gallery). Other certain works: the Lion of the Doge's Palace, of 1415, a Madonna in the Museo Correr, a triptych dated 1436 in Chioggia.
