IACOBUS de ZOCCHIS de FERRARIA. — A not undistinguished canon lawyer of the 15th century, born in Ferrara (hence the added epithet) at an uncertain date. He may have taught in Ferrara before moving to Padua (1429), where in 1433 his salary was 250 gold plates. He died in 1457, bequeathing his library to a small convent, which he had built and where he was also buried.
He wrote two Commentaries on the first and fourth books of the Decretals and various treatises: De arbore consanguinitatis et affinitatis; De poenitentia et remissionibus (a commentary on cap. 12, X, V, 38); De ieiunio; De differentiis casuum fori contentiosi et conscientiae (a commentary on 8, X, III, 49); De pactis.
