ARNOLFO, archbishop of MILANO. — Elected on 6 Dec. 1093 by popular vote, he was confirmed in his dignity by Corrado, recognized at that time as king of Italy. Deposed by the papal legate, he retired, it seems, to the monastery of Civate until Urbano II, passing through Milano on his way to France, appointed him, in 1095, archbishop of that city, decreeing his
consecration at the Synod of Piacenza. After the recognition by Urbano II of the sanctity of Erlembaldo Cotta, A. is said to have placed the Saint’s remains, together with the pope himself, in the church of S. Dionisio.
On 2 Nov. he granted a privilege to three distinguished persons. In Aug. 1096 he granted Landolfo di Baggio, provost, and the canons of S. Ambrogio the church of S. Maria Greca. He died on 24 Sept. 1097 and was buried in the monastery of Civate.
