AZEVÊDO, LUIZ GONZAGA de. – Portuguese Jesuit, b. at Arcos de Val de Vez (Minho) in 1867, d. at La Guardia on 9 March 1930. He entered the Society in 1898, taught literature and history, and from 1910 devoted himself chiefly to historical studies. He left two printed works: *Proscritos* (2 vols., Valladolid 1911 and Brussels 1914, translated into Spanish and French; it is the history of the expulsion of the Jesuits during the 1910 revolution) and *Jesuita. Fases de una legenda* (2 vols., Brussels 1913). His *Historia de Portugal*, from the origins to the 13th century, was recently published under the care of Fr. D. Maurício Gomes dos Santos (6 vols., Lisbon 1935–43).
