Bacolod, Diocese of
In the western island of Negros (Philippines), the city has a port on the Guimaras Strait and has about 60,000 inhabitants. The diocese was erected on 15 July 1932 as a suffragan of Cebu (Name of Jesus); it comprises to the east the island of Negros and the small adjacent islands detached from the diocese of Jaro, and to the west the island of Siquijor detached from the diocese of Cebu. It has an area of 13,143 sq km and a population of 1,218,507, of whom 961,628 are Catholics. There are 53 parishes; 32 diocesan priests and 23 religious priests.
