Bacolod, Diocese of

BACOLod, DIOCESE of. — On the island of western Negros (Philippines); the city has a port on the Strait of Guimaras and has approximately 60,000 inhabitants. The diocese was created on 15 July 1932 as a suffragan of Cebu (Holy Name); it comprises, in the east, the island of Negros and the small adjacent islands detached from the diocese of Jaro, and, in the west, the island of Siquijor detached from the diocese of Cebu. It has an area of 13,143 sq km and a population of 1,218,507, of whom 961,628 are Catholics. There are 53 parishes; 32 diocesan priests and 23 religious priests.
