BACOLOD, Diocese of. - On the island of western Negros (Philippines); the city has a port on the strait of Guimaras and has about 60,000 inhabitants. The diocese was created on 15 July 1932, as a suffragan of Cebu (Name of Jesus); it comprises to the east the island of Negros and the small adjacent islands detached from the diocese of Jaro, and to the west the island of Siquijor detached from the diocese of Cebu. It has an area of 13,143 sq. km. and a population of 1,218,507 inhabitants, of whom 961,628 are Catholics. The parishes number 53; the diocesan priests 32 and the regulars 23.
