Bartolucci, Vincenzo

BARTOLUCCI, VINCENZO. - Papal magistrate, b. in Rome in 1753, d. in 1823. In 1808 he was fiscal advocate of the Apostolic Chamber and dean of the consistorial advocates. After the French occupation of the Papal States, he was appointed by Napoleon as first president of the court of appeal and councillor of state. With the Restoration he resumed the office of advocate of the Apostolic Chamber. Pius VII, who not without reason distrusted B., nevertheless had him recalled on the suggestion of Card. Consalvi. Consalvi made use of his vast knowledge of Napoleonic law in drafting the motu proprio of July 1816.
