BENET (BONET), JUAN BAUTISTA. - Catalan Carmelite, ascetic and pedagogical writer of the 17th century. A native of Olot (diocese of Girona), he was definitor of the Catalan province and perpetual commissioner of the Carmelite Third Order (1666, confirmed 1693). Died c. 1698.

Publications: Jardin del Carmelo (Barcelona 1660); Espejo de vida y exercicios de virtud (ibid. 1664); Las elegancias de Paulo Manuccio (ibid. 1645), an interesting Catalan popularization of the work of P. Manuzio, based on the Castilian translations of Lorenzo Palmireno (1573) and Hernando Álvarez (1616).
