BEDA OF SAINT SIMON STOCK. - In the world Walter Travers; Discalced Carmelite, b. in 1619 to Protestant parents in Devonshire (England). Having come to Rome, he was converted in 1644 and became a Carmelite (1647). Returning to his homeland (1660), he carried on an intense missionary activity, interrupted by a stay in Italy (1678-1686) caused by the persecution against Catholics brought about by the Titus Oates plot. He died on 17 January 1696 in Paris.

He wrote two unpublished accounts, on his conversion and on his labors in England (mss. arch. gen. Carm. sc.), and an apologetic work entitled: A short and easy Introduction by way of a Dialogue between a Catholic and a Protestant (Douai 1693), also translated into French and Italian.
