BEDA di SAN SIMONE STOCK. – In the world Walter Travers; Discalced Carmelite, b. in 1619 to Protestant parents in Devonshire (England). Coming to Rome, he converted in 1644 and became a Carmelite (1647). Returning to his homeland (1660), he carried out an intense missionary activity, interrupted by a stay in Italy (1678–1686) caused by the persecution against Catholics provoked by the Titus Oates conspiracy. D. on 17 January 1696 in Paris.
He wrote two unpublished accounts, concerning his conversion and his activity in England (mss. arch. gen. Carm. sc.), and an apologetic work entitled: A short and easy Introduction by way of a Dialogue between a Catholic and a Protestant (Douai 1693), also translated into French and Italian.
