BARTOLOMEO di SAN FILIPPO NERI. – Carmelite Discalced ascetical writer, of noble lineage (in the world Giacomo Antonio Origoni), born near Varese in 1591, died, while serving as prior at Modena, on 26 December 1638.
He received the Carmelite habit in Rome on 25 April 1613; after completing his theological studies, he was sent back to the province of Lombardy, where he served as lecturer in theology, prior (Milan 1623, Bologna 1628), and provincial (1634–37). In this capacity he published four pastoral letters to the religious of his province, of considerable ascetical value: 1) De bono observantiae regularis; 2) De interna et externa solitudine; 3) De oratione et interna cum Deo conversatione; 4) De damnis a diabolos intentis (published in Collectio Mediolanensis, Milan 1671–73).
