BARTOLOMEO da SAN CONCORDIO. - Dominican, born in the district of Pisa in 1262. Received into the Dominican Order as a youth, he completed his studies at Bologna and Paris; he was later lector at Florence. He died in the Pisan convent of S. Caterina in 1347.
Besides Gli ammastramenti degli antichi, a broad collection of maxims by classical authors, ecclesiastical writers, and also by himself, first compiled in Latin and then rendered into the vernacular by himself, and the Summa casuum conscientiae which, in the Italian version attributed to Giovanni delle Celle, is called Prunella or Maestruzzo, there are attributed to him the chronicles known as those of S. Caterina (down to 1314), a treatise on orthography, and one on the art of memory. At the request of the Florentine Nero Cambi, he translated into the vernacular Sallust’s Catilinaria and Giuguriina.
