DE BONO, GASPARE, blessed. — Born at Valenza on 5 January 1530, died there on 14 July 1604. He donned the Dominican habit in 1545. In order to help his family, he was able to leave the convent.
In 1550 he enlisted in the army of Charles V and remained in Italy until 1560. Wounded at Florence, he promised that, if he returned to Spain, he would enter the Order of Minims. Having returned to Spain, he pronounced his vows in the convent of S. Sebastiano at Valenza (1665). He was ordained a priest in 1666. In 1680 he was provincial of the Minims. He was a man of exceptionally austere life. He was beatified by Pius VI on 10 October 1786. Feast day: 14 July.
