DE MATTHIAS, Maria, Venerable. - Religious, foundress of the Adorers of the Most Precious Blood, b. at Vallecorsa (Frosinone) on 4 Feb. 1805, d. at Rome on 20 Aug. 1866. Her providential meeting with the blessed Gaspare del Bufalo decided her to give a new direction to her religious vocation, dedicating herself to the spiritual formation and education of youth. She patiently suffered misunderstandings and struggles for her institute, which before her death she was able to see recognized by the Holy See. Her beatification is imminent.
