DI ROSA, Maria Crocifissa, Blessed. - In the world, Paolina Di Rosa, Foundress of the Ancelle della Carità (v.), born in Brescia to a noble family on 6 Nov. 1813, died there on 15 Dec. 1855. At the age of 17 the management of her father's silk mill was entrusted to her, and she restored it to new splendor, showing herself at the same time solicitous for the spiritual and material good of the workers. In the cholera epidemic of 1836 her heroism toward the sick shone forth. A true apostle of charity, she poured out her inner love for the benefit of the sick and the poor and wretched.

She was beatified by Pius XII on 26 May 1940.
