CIPRIANO BENET. - Dominican writer, born in Albeda (Aragon) around 1460 and died between 1522 and 1530. Around 1500, for study reasons, he was in Paris, where he earned his degree and taught, then moving to Rome in 1509 at the University of the Sapienza. In 1521 he delivered there a discourse against Luther, which was burned in effigy along with his works. Against the evident Lutheran errors of the time, he vigorously defended the authority of the Church and the Pope.
His works include: *Illustrium virorum opuscula* (Paris 1500); *De sacrosancto Eucharistiae Sacramento et de eiusdem ministro ad Julium II* (no date); *Tractatus quattuor*: *de prima orbis sede*, *de concilio*, *de ecclesiastica potestate*, *de pontificis maximi auctoritate* (Rome 1512); *De non mutando paschate* (ibid. 1515); *Aneleus contra Judaeos* (ibid. 1515); *Dialogus de excellentia et utilitate theologiae* (ibid. 1518); *De Caroli I regis Hispaniarum, postea Caesaris ac Imperatoris V, praeeminentia et clementia* (ibid. 1518).
