BERTINO, saint. – Second abbot of Sithiu on the Aa River, where the rule and customs of St. Colombano were followed. He first appears in 674–75 as a signatory to the will of Bishop Amando. In 682 he obtained from King Teodorico III the right to collect taxes from the dependent territories, which had previously been assigned to the fisc. In 685 the noble Amalfrido donated to him the estate of Hunulfocurten. From King Clodoveo III (691) and from Childeberto III (697) he obtained confirmation of the immunities granted to his predecessor Mummolino. He died on 5 September 698. And in a document of 745 he is mentioned with the title of saint.
