Bertot, Abbé

BERTOT, ABBÉ. - French priest, b. in Normandy around 1620, a friend of Jean de Bernières, and d. in 1681; he was one of the first directors of Madame Guyon (v.).

His posthumous work, Le directeur mystique (4 vols., Cologne, but in reality in Holland, 1729), exalts the "prayer of pure and naked faith"; except that, the work having been published, it seems, under the care of Guyon, it is difficult to know to what extent she respected the author's thought.
