BETLEMME di GALILEA. — A city of the tribe of Zabulon. In Jos. 19:15, among the cities assigned to this tribe, a locality named B. is mentioned (LXX: A Βαυθάμ, B Βαυθάμ). In Iudc. 12:8, B. is IABES (v.): this B. most probably refers to the B. of Zabulon, because the general tenor of the Book of Judges concerns almost exclusively northern Palestine. Today B. is a village of approximately 200 inhabitants, 12 km west of Nazareth and somewhat south of the Wadi el-Melek. The remains of a synagogue and of a church with three naves can be seen there.
