BETHLEHEM of Galilee. – A city of the tribe of Zabulon. In Josh. 19:15, among the cities assigned to this tribe, a locality named B. is mentioned (LXX: Βαθλοέμ A, Βαθλομάν B). In Judg. 12:8, B. is indicated as the home of Ibzan (v.). This B. is most likely to be referred to the B. of Zabulon, since the general tenor of the Book of Judges concerns almost exclusively the northern part of Palestine. Today B. is a village of about 200 inhabitants, 12 km west of Nazareth and a little south of the Wadi el-Melek. There are remains of a synagogue and a three-aisled church.
