BIGLIETTO DI NOMINA

APPOINTMENT LETTER. – In Curial language, this term refers to the brief letter written in the Pope’s name by which a person is informed of an appointment or promotion to some dignity, office, employment, rank, benefice, etc. In most cases, it serves as a swift means of communication, pending the dispatch and delivery of the bull or brief relating to that appointment or promotion. New cardinals, for instance, receive a letter in which the Cardinal Secretary of State announces to them their elevation to the dignity of cardinal in a secret consistory.
