BOLDUC (BOULDUC), JACQUES. - A Capuchin of the province of Paris, perhaps belonging to the Parisian family of Jean-Baptiste B., of the Academy of Sciences at the end of the seventeenth century. He made his religious profession on 18 Aug. 1581, was lecturer in theology, provincial definitor in 1590, then superior of various convents; in 1620 he returned to scholarly studies; d. in Paris on 8 Sept. 1646.

In biblical exegesis B. distinguished himself by various publications, not free from artificial and forced interpretations: Commentaria in librum Job (the first 21 chapters: Paris 1619; complete: ibid. 1637); Expositio in epistolam B. Judae Apostoli, in qua similia secundae B. Petri Apostoli verba pariter expenduntur (ibid. 1620); De Ecclesia ante legem libri tres (Lyons 1626 and Paris 1630); De Ecclesia post legem liber unus analogicus (ibid. 1630); De orgio christiano libri tres: ...encharistiae typica mysteria (Lyons 1640). These last three works are all centred on comparisons and analogies between the Mosaic law and institutions, or those of nature, and Christian ones.
